Chased Sterling Silver Quaich

Chased Sterling Silver Quaich

£1,450.00Price

A hand-raised silver quaich shaped through tradition, material, and contemporary process.

Formed in sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques, the vessel is raised from a flat sheet before being worked through chasing, building a textured surface through repeated, controlled hammer strikes. The marks are embedded into the material, carrying the rhythm and force of its making.

The quaich is one of Scotland’s most enduring vessel forms, historically used to offer a shared drink, held in both hands as a gesture of welcome, trust, and hospitality. This piece continues that lineage, retaining the characteristic shallow bowl and opposing handles while reinterpreting the surface through a contemporary language.

The chased texture draws from the carved and weathered surfaces of North East Scotland, stone shaped by time, labour, and tool. Light moves unevenly across the vessel, catching on the surface and revealing shifting areas of highlight and shadow.

Balanced between use and object, the quaich may be used in moments of gathering or held as a sculptural piece. Its form invites interaction; lifted, offered, and returned, maintaining its role as a vessel of shared experience.

Each piece is individually made, with variations in surface and form that reflect the nature of the process.
