Chased Sterling Silver Side Plate

Chased Sterling Silver Side Plate

£1,125.00Price

A hand-formed silver plate developed through surface, rhythm, and reference.

This sterling silver side plate is raised and finished at the bench before being worked through chasing, a process of controlled hammering that builds form and surface directly into the material. Around the rim, an interlaced strapwork pattern emerges, drawn and refined through repeated strikes.

The design takes its starting point from historic strapwork, a visual language found in metalwork, carving, and ornament across early Britain. Rather than replicating a specific source, the pattern is reinterpreted through process, allowing the marks of making to remain visible within the structure.

The plate’s form is simple and grounded, with a shallow well and defined rim. The central surface is left smooth and reflective, creating a contrast with the worked edge and allowing the object to shift between use and display.

As a functional object, it sits comfortably within domestic use, suited to serving or presentation. As an object, it holds a quiet presence, balancing surface, reflection, and detail.

Each piece is individually made, with variations in line, texture, and form that reflect the nature of the process.
