Forged Thistle Spoon
A hand-forged silver spoon shaped through process, gesture, and material.
Formed in sterling silver at the bench, the spoon carries a direct, worked surface; its texture emerging through hammering and refining rather than applied decoration. The form is simple and balanced, designed for use and repeated handling.
At the terminal, a subtle reference to the thistle is integrated into the design. Long associated with resilience, protection, and national identity, the thistle has been a defining symbol of Scotland for centuries . Here, it is not presented as ornament, but as a quiet marker of place and meaning.
Historically, spoons have often carried symbolic elements; given as gifts, marked with motifs, and held as personal objects as much as functional tools . This piece continues that lineage, combining use with a sense of significance.
The surface reflects the act of making, catching light unevenly and revealing the movement of the hammer. Designed for daily use, the spoon becomes part of a repeated gesture, held, used, and returned.
