Chased Sterling Silver Plate
A flat silver surface shaped through process, gesture, and material.
This sterling silver plate is hand-formed and worked through chasing, building a textured surface through repeated, controlled hammer strikes. The marks are embedded into the material, creating a surface that holds light unevenly and reveals the rhythm of its making.
The plate functions as both object and ground, a place on which things are set, served, or gathered. Its horizontal form shifts the focus from containment to presentation, offering a defined space for use or display.
The surface draws from a language of worked material, echoing the textures of carved stone, eroded ground, and archaeological fragments found across North East Scotland.
These references are not literal, but emerge through the process of making through repetition, pressure, and mark.
Light moves across the plate in a shifting way, catching on the chased surface and revealing subtle variations across the form. Whether used functionally or held as a standalone object, the piece carries a quiet presence.
Each plate is individually made, with variations in surface and form that reflect the nature of the process.
