A selection of my work was recently shown as part of QEST’s Ultimate Evening of Craft at the V&A in South Kensington⚒️

Although I wasn’t able to attend in person, it was a real honour to be represented alongside fellow Scottish QEST scholars @montylewisdesign and @acme.atelier, celebrating the strength and diversity of craft across the UK.

Events like this are so important in championing makers, supporting future talent, and showcasing the value of skilled craft at the highest level. Grateful to QEST for continuing to support and platform Scottish makers within such a prestigious setting🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The COMPASS: Emerging Curator Programme aims to empower Scotland’s next generation of craft curators. The programme will combine online workshops and in-person site visits, and will include a visit to London Craft Week 2026.

A recent commission inspired by the carved symbolism of Pictish stones🪨

The piece was designed as a small sculptural object that echoes the way archaeological artefacts are displayed in museums, elevating the form and giving it space to be observed⚒️

Three spiral carvings surround a central ruby, drawing from recurring motifs found across Pictish sites in the North East of Scotland.

Engraved on the wooden base is the Doric phrase “Ma Bonnie Quine”, meaning My Beautiful Woman in the North East Scots dialect, grounding the piece not only in ancient visual language but also in the living culture of the region.

A wonderful project to work on and a fascinating opportunity to engage with Scotland’s early visual culture through making💭

This copper vessel explores the idea of holding as memory, drawing on the textures and quiet persistence of Pictish mark-making. Though not made for drinking, it’s designed to be touched and passed, activating the object through the shared experience of holding. These themes are being explored by the ongoing Holding Conversations series with @visualartsscotland and will continue to develop throughout the year💭

Handcrafted in sterling silver, the piece draws on the textures of ancient Scottish stone and landscape, sitting quietly within the story the whole team created. It was a privilege to collaborate with such a talented group of Aberdeen and Shire creatives, all sharing a love for craft, place and storytelling💭

It was a really special evening celebrating the depth of craft talent across Scotland, with a curated showcase of QEST Alumni work and live demonstrations, a reminder of just how vital it is that traditional skills continue to be supported, invested in and passed forward⚒️

I was also lucky to join an inspiring panel conversation, Craft Your Future: Where Next?, chaired by the brilliant @francesprieststudio, alongside the talented @juju.books and @emmawilkinson___, speaking honestly about pathways into a career in craft, the realities, the rewards and the long, winding journey of building a sustainable practice💭

A slow, snowy start to 2026 in Aberdeen🌨️

I’ve had a gentle return to the workshop after Hogmanay, easing through admin and planning, while and think carefully about how I want to work this year. The city has been beautifully blanketed in snow and there’s something about being forced to slow down that feels appropriate right now.

On 1st January 2026, all four Assay Offices across the UK retired the 2025 ‘A’ and began marking with the ‘B’ date letter, It changes annually with a new typographic alphabet being issued every 25 years. The font, case and shield shape around the letter change once the alphabet has been completed so each letter is unique to a specific year.

While no longer a compulsory mark in the UK, the Date Letter is part of the traditional full UK hallmark, which I include on all of my hallmarked pieces, and tells you in what year an item was hallmarked. A quiet but meaningful marker of time passing and a new chapter beginning💭

2025 has been a year of change as I finishing my time as a Founding Tenant at the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop into my new home at Deemouth Artist Studios in Aberdeen. A new space, a new city and a new chapter for my practice⚒️

To everyone who visited my workshop, commissioned work, bought a piece, shared advice, opened a door or simply encouraged me along the way: Thank you. Your support has allowed me to keep making, learning and pushing this craft I love forward. I don’t take it for granted.

QEST transforms the careers of talented and aspiring makers by funding their training and education, creating pathways to excellence and strengthening the future of the UK’s craft sector. Celebrating 35 years of impact in 2025, the Charity has granted £7.4 million to almost 900 craftspeople working across the UK in 130 craft disciplines. A thriving craft industry is vital to the UK’s cultural and economic landscape as well as the future world of work. QEST is committed to empowering the next generation to see craft as a viable, fulfilling and sustainable career. Every creative involved is Aberdeen/Shire based, like-minded and driven by a shared desire to explore new, authentic avenues into the North East wedding scene🍁

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of being part of a styled shoot inspired by the haunting folklore of French Kate, a story deeply rooted in the wild spirit of the North East. Every creative involved is Aberdeen/Shire based, like-minded and driven by a shared desire to explore new, authentic avenues into the North East wedding scene🍁

I’m so excited to share that I’ve won the 2025 Inches Carr Craft Development Award✨

This year-long bursary will allow me to focus on a new chapter of my practice, making my own chasing tools to capture the textures of Pictish stones and translate them into a new body of silverwork. The Aberlemno Stone Vase: Hand-raised in sterling silver, this piece takes its inspiration from a visit to the iconic carved Pictish stones at Aberlemno, Angus. The chased surface marks echo ancient patterns, symbols of memory, lineage, and place, reimagined here through the lens of contemporary silversmithing⚒️

Its textured silver body is punctuated by deep-chased detailing, creating a dialogue between Scotland’s past and present traditions of craftsmanship🪨

This vase will be on display as part of @northeastopenstudios (NEOS), which begins this weekend. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the piece in person, alongside other new works fresh from my bench🌊

I’m delighted to have taken part in the Inches Carr Showcase at the historic Dalkeith Palace this month, a stunning venue where the light and architecture felt perfectly suited to showing my silverware. It was a real privilege to see all nine shortlisted artists’ work brought together in such a setting⚒️

The Inches Carr Award has a rich history of supporting contemporary makers in Scotland. I’m now looking ahead to September, when the final judging takes place at Custom Lane, Edinburgh. Two winners will be awarded a bursary, mentoring and an exhibition opportunity later this year💭

Today, as part of my @teagreenevents Takeover, I’m sharing more about what I make and how I bring each piece to life🔨

Every design begins with research, sketching and modelling inspired by Pictish hoards, ancient stone carvings and Scotland’s rugged coastlines. From there, silver sheets are coaxed into form usually using the slow, methodical rhythms of raising, planishing and chasing. These traditional hammering techniques are centuries old but I use them to create pieces with clean, contemporary lines.

Surface is key in my work. I love the tactile quality of heavily planished silver, its shimmering texture echoing the stone and metalwork of Scotland’s past. Each mark records a moment in the making, a conversation between silver and steel.

This weekend, I’ll have a range of tableware and jewellery, each piece telling a small part of that story, ready to be held, used and treasured⚒️

Hello, it’s @scottsmith.design on the @teagreenevents Takeover today! I’m a contemporary silversmith based at the vibrant @deemouthartiststudios in Aberdeen🌊

I grew up in the beautiful landscapes of North-East Scotland, outside the historic fishing village of Portsoy. That deep connection to my heritage has never left me and it continues to shape my work as I explore links to my Pictish ancestors.

My pieces are designed to feel at home both on the dining table and in the wild Scottish landscapes that inspired them, a blend of function and quiet sculpture.

Hello, it’s @scottsmith.design on the @teagreenevents Takeover today! I’m a contemporary silversmith based at the vibrant @deemouthartiststudios in Aberdeen🌊

I grew up in the beautiful landscapes of North-East Scotland, outside the historic fishing village of Portsoy. That deep connection to my heritage has never left me and it continues to shape my work as I explore links to my Pictish ancestors.

My pieces are designed to feel at home both on the dining table and in the wild Scottish landscapes that inspired them, a blend of function and quiet sculpture.

This weekend at Tea Green in Aberdeen Art Gallery, I’ll be bringing a selection of handcrafted tableware and jewellery, each made using traditional hammering techniques such as raising, planishing and chasing⚒️

Had a wonderful evening last night at the Forfeit Feast at Cutlers Hall, hosted by the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire in the County of York🍴

The tradition of imposing fines, or forfeits, on Members for non-attendance at meetings or misdemeanours committed at meetings can be traced back to the seventeenth century. During the eighteenth century, the term “forfeit” was also used to describe the fines imposed on cutlers for the late payment, or even non-payment, of their Mark Rents. These were collected in the last week of July and from about 1729, Mark Rent Day was celebrated with a dinner, often referred to as the Searchers’ Feast. This Feast was not held in the Cutlers’ Hall, but at one of the local taverns and it was partly funded by the forfeits. By 1806 this dinner was known as the Forfeit Feast and since 1834 it has been held in the Cutlers’ Hall.

In 1920, the fine for non-attendance at Company meetings was raised to one shilling and the money thus raised is still put towards the cost of the Forfeit Feast💭

Shortly I’ll be saying farewell to Marchmont and stepping into an exciting new chapter, taking over @meganfalconerjewellery old workshop at @deemouthartiststudios in Aberdeen, as she moves into her stunning new space in Craigievar⚒️

It’s a bittersweet moment as I reflect on what a transformative two and a half years it’s been as a Founding Tenant of the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop. I’ve had the privilege of watching these old kennels evolve from an empty shell into a thriving hive of activity filled with tools, learning and memories.

During my time here, I’ve pushed my technical practice to new levels, learned from and alongside makers I deeply admire and forged lifelong friendships with the most kind and thoughtful people. It’s also where I discovered the quiet joy of growing vegetables in my sunny greenhouse, inspired by the beautiful glasshouses of the Hugo Burge Foundation🌿

After five and a half years of a long-distance relationship, I’ll also finally be moving in with my partner @rosslawrencexx - A personal milestone I’m so grateful to reach and one that makes this new chapter feel even more meaningful.

Thank you to the incredible generosity of Hugo Burge and Graham Stewart, with the support of @hugoburgefoundation and the Incorporation of Goldsmiths through the Scottish Goldsmiths Trust, for making all of this possible. As well as everyone who made this place feel like home, especially my workshop partners-in-crime @katiewatsondesigns and @hannahkeddiedesign for the laughs, support and sticking together through all the beautiful chaos🤍

A glimpse of my latest kilt pins & brooches inspired by the traditional safety pin form, reimagined with my contemporary nod to Scotland’s ancient past🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Each pin will weave together elements of Pictish design, referencing carved stones and ancient symbols alongside clean, modern lines. It’s important to me that these pieces celebrate both heritage and personal storytelling, allowing the wearer to carry a piece of history reinterpreted for today⚒️

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I have been awarded a South House Workshop Trust Scholarship to further develop my silversmithing skills under the mentorship of master silversmith Brett Payne in Sheffield🥄

This fully funded, month-long residency will allow me to push my hammering techniques and refine key silversmithing skills - strengthening the foundation of my craft and enabling me to take my work to new heights⚒️

Last week, I had the privilege of touring the Silver Vaults at Drapers’ Hall, home to the silver collections of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs, and currently, the Clothworkers Company. Among them sits the Lilani Goblet, which I had the honour of creating for the Worshipful Company of Entrepreneurs last year⚒️

The day continued with their Spring Lunch at the Reform Club, Pall Mall, where my goblet was brought to the table for its patron, Pinky Lilani CBE DL, to enjoy - a special moment seeing my work in context in such a historic setting🥂

Events like these highlight the rich traditions and craftsmanship of the livery world, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of that legacy. A huge thank you to Duncan and the Company of Entrepreneurs for such a memorable experience💭

Spent a perfect unseasonably sunny Scottish day exploring Edin’s Hall Broch with my boyfriend - The most southernly broch, perched on the edge of the Lammermuir Hills. Brochs are drystone towers dating back over 2,000 years, scattered across Scotland, with their true purpose still debated - likely fortified homes, status symbols, or defensive structures🪨

These ancient ruins and their incredible craftsmanship have long inspired my silversmithing. The precision of interlocking stonework, the resilience of these structures, and the connection to Scotland’s deep history all find their way into my work. Exploring sites like this helps me reconnect with traditional forms while reimagining them in metal⚒️

Inspired by the ancient Pictish carvings of the Burghead Bulls found in the North East of Scotland, These stones are thought to date back to the 5th or 6th century and depict powerful bulls that have become an important part of Scotland’s artistic heritage - Including my own, Coming from a cattle farming background🐄
